Elegant spikes of hooded, pink-flushed to white flowers with spiny red-purple bracts with long, shiny, red, deeply-cut basal olive green leaves. A bold perennial that may be grown as a specimen in the garden. Very easy to grow, requires very little care. Height 18″.
Acanthus attracts bees and butterflies to the garden. Prefers average, fertile, medium moisture well drained soil. Drought tolerant when established. Tolerates deep shade and many soil conditions. Intolerant of poorly drained soils. Can spread aggressively by creeping rootstocks. Deer and rabbit resistant.
