Soft, aromatic, dark green leaves on plants that spread and root along the stems, making a lovely border plant for the herb garden. Italian oregano has slightly larger leaves than its Greek cousin. Intense flavor is best before the plant blooms, and stems can be cut back throughout the season to deter blooming. Used fresh or dried, Oregano is a major ingredient in Italian and Latin cuisines. Prefers dry to average well-drained soils.
